Having a blog is more than just writing entries and hoping that someone somewhere will see it, and then somehow find your business because of it. A blog is an extension of you and your company, it needs to be personal and informative, and it needs to be showcased. It is like a business card or brochure, if you make marketing materials and never hand them out will they bring you business?

Unlike a two dimensional marketing piece a blog brings dimension to your business, it brings a face and personality to your company, and it opens you up to a much larger community than you could ever get from traditional business networking platforms. Whether your initial interaction with a potential client is in person, their investigative work on you and your business will be online. How many times have you used Google to look for or check up on something or someone? You may believe that the internet is just a "young person's" platform, but you would be wrong, and as web 2.0 grows into 3.0 and 10.0 you will be left behind.

So I have convinced you to start a blog now how do you get people to notice it? You get out there socialize and market your blog is how! You join blogging communities, social networking sites, informational and trade websites. You read and comment on other blogs…you join the internet community. Jump in, they will not bite I promise!

Mybloglog is a great place to jump in and meet as many people as possible. The name of the game here is contacts and communities. The more contacts you have and the more communities you are part of the more exposure your blog will get. You can add 15 contacts and join 15 communities a day, max that out every day. This is a place to meet people and even get to know some people, but the primary focus is exposure, I would say friendship is second maybe third on the list here. It is about being active, visible, and aggressive. You cannot be shy in this community, leave messages for people ask them to join your community, blast post messages, and be as active as possible. Link, link, and more links.

Yes it takes work, everything does, but how hard is it to spend an hour or two of your day networking from your computer? It's not and it should be done. So watch this video and the rest in the series to see ways that you can get out into the blogging world. You do not have join all of these blogger communities but you need to be meeting people somewhere so choose a couple that resonate with you and build from there.
