So you are trying to build up web traffic, you read every book on Google placement, you paid for Google pay per click, you have even paid companies to move you up the Google ladder, and you still aren't getting the attention you need. Word of mouth is a phenomenal referral source but it can sometimes be a while before the fire ignites and we know that fire needs oxygen to grow so where do you get the oxygen?

If you have ever started a campfire or seen someone start one, you may have noticed them blowing on those initial baby flames to help the fire grow. Going after Google directly is not the only way to build traffic to your site, create a little oxygen of your own. Get on the internet and start looking for partner websites, websites that compliment or build upon your website. Traffic building is something that we all have in common and building strategic website partners is good for everyone involved.

A few things to remember when looking for those strategic partner websites:

1. Research the potential website and make sure it is not a competition site you do not want to lose clients

2. Make sure the content is up to your standards…. you will be judged by it, so watch the site and look at archived material

3. Make sure that the relationship is reciprocal, no one is going to partner with you if you are the only one benefiting

4. Finally contact the website owner and see if they are as progressive as you are, make sure you are compatible

Once you have found a great strategic website partner with a great database and phenomenal traffic you now need to create an announcement. This announcement is going to highlight your partner website and their announcement is going to highlight you. The message needs to create interest so it should be bold, eye catching, and give enough information but not too much, to peak interest. If you do not have a associate page, once you start building up your partner relationships you will need one, but if you do have one highlight your new partner on your main page and then move them to the associate page. If you and your collaborator do this right you have just opened yourself up to a new "warm" lead source.

A warm lead source is a source that comes to you with a level of trust because they have been referred to you by someone they have confidence in. A lead from a partner website is much stronger than a cold web surfer from a search engine. An associate site can also help you build marketing dollars, content, and expert interviews.
